What is research misconduct and what constitutes a violation of good scientific practice? 


Research misconduct exists when the standards of good scientific practice are violated intentionally, knowingly or with gross negligence. Violations could be: The fabrication or falsification of data; plagiarism; unjustified refusal of access to primary and original data; obstruction of the research activities of other researchers; sabotaging research activities; incorrect information in a grant application; discrimination in career advancement, especially of younger researchers, etc.

Participating in other parties' violations of the standards of good scientific practice also represents research misconduct.
